After ten years representing Scotland, Sarah Jamieson has retired from international hockey, bringing an impressive international career to a close with 120 caps and 24 goals to her name.
From competing at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast to helping Scotland secure their place in the top division of the European Championships, Jamieson has enjoyed plenty of memorable moments in a Scotland shirt. Her international career ended on the biggest stage of all, as part of the Scotland squad that returned to the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup in 2026, their first appearance at the tournament in 24 years.
Alongside her international hockey career, Sarah has balanced the demands of elite sport with working full-time in the legal profession. While her international chapter has come to an end, she's not hanging up her stick just yet, with plenty to look forward to at Watsonians Hockey Club.
We caught up with Sarah to reflect on her favourite Scotland memories, the challenges of balancing hockey with her legal career and why the Grays JB10 has been her stick of choice for so many years.
1. Sarah Jamieson's most memorable international goal
Of your 24 international goals, which one means the most to you?
"That's a hard question! Every time you score for your country, it's so special. But I'd probably have to say my goal against Wales in 2024, which helped us get back into the A Division of the European Championships. It was a really tense game and securing qualification was especially important because changes to the qualification system meant we'd retain our A Division status for several years. To score such an important goal in front of a home crowd made it even more special!"
2. Commonwealth Games memories from Gold Coast 2018
Gold Coast 2018 was your first Commonwealth Games. What do you remember most about it?
"Gold Coast was an amazing trip. I just remember it all feeling so surreal and feeling incredibly lucky to be part of it. Being involved in a multi-sport Games is such an amazing experience and I loved every second. Team Scotland made us feel so welcome and it was really special to meet so many other athletes. I was also lucky to have family already living in Australia, as well as family who travelled over from Scotland to support me. Having them there made the whole experience even more special."

3. Captaining Scotland and competing with the world's best
Scotland's Nations Cup campaign in Chile gave the squad an opportunity to test themselves against higher-ranked opposition and build confidence ahead of their World Cup ambitions. For Jamieson, sharing the captaincy was another highlight, allowing her to take on a leadership role within a squad she had been part of for many years.
What did it mean to share the captaincy in Chile, and how did that tournament set Scotland up for the World Cup?
"That was a really special time. I wouldn't say I'm a natural captain, but I actually enjoyed the role more than I expected. I think you naturally grow into that responsibility when you realise you're one of the more experienced players in the squad. We played some really good hockey in Chile and had the opportunity to face higher-ranked teams that we don't usually come up against. Showing that we could not only compete with those teams but beat them gave us a lot of belief. It really reinforced that we deserved to be competing with the top teams in the world."
4. Balancing international hockey with a legal career
You've balanced international hockey with a legal career. What challenges have come with that, and what advice would you give to anyone trying to do something similar?
"It's been tough at times, I won't deny that! I've been in the squad for ten years and have been working full-time at my firm for seven of those. My biggest piece of advice would be to find ways to make the most of your time and make things easier for yourself wherever possible. Plan out your weeks and months in advance so you know when your busy periods are coming up. I'd also recommend blocking out time for friends, family and yourself, so you don't miss out on those opportunities. Even simple things like meal prepping can save so much time when you're juggling everything. It's definitely been tricky at times, but I'm excited to finally be able to use my annual leave for proper holidays next year!"

5. Why Sarah Jamieson chooses the Grays JB10
As a forward with 24 international goals to her name, Jamieson knows the importance of finding a stick that combines power in front of goal with the speed needed to execute skills under pressure. Having played with the Grays JB10 for around eight years, it's become a trusted part of her kit throughout her international career.
Which Grays stick and equipment do you use, and what do you look for in a stick?
"I've used the JB10 range for probably the last eight years and it's been perfect for me. It's quick for skills but also powerful for shooting, which is exactly what you want as a forward! I also love all the Grays Hockey Kit Bags. It's always exciting when the new range comes out. A huge thank you to Grays for supporting me for so long!"

6. What's next for Sarah Jamieson?
You're carrying on with Watsonians Hockey Club. What are you most looking forward to in club hockey now?
"I'm definitely not hanging up the stick just yet! WHC is a great club and I love playing alongside such good friends, so it's an easy decision to keep going. I'm looking forward to continuing our mission to remain one of the top teams in Scotland, as well as competing in Europe next year. I'm also really looking forward to playing a full indoor season this winter, including the club indoor Euros. Outdoor international training has taken priority over indoor hockey for the past few years, but I absolutely love indoor, so it's going to be great to get back to playing more of it!"
At Grays, we're proud to have supported Sarah throughout her international career and to have seen the JB10 accompany her on some of the biggest stages in hockey. We wish Sarah every success as she continues playing for Watsonians and enjoys some well-earned time away from the demands of international hockey."
